Tune in and listen up

This is another first in a series, my podcasts. I’ve selected excerpts from the five short stories in my Accursed Women collection and created a series of podcasts. I decided, instead of pasting excerpts from my manuscripts, I would read and record myself.

This is a huge step for me as I really don’t like listening to my voice, which is weird considering I teach and I am constantly talking to students, teachers and parents. Nevertheless, I thought it time to overcome this irrational side of my insecurities and try podcasting. And as I told my students last week in creative writing, the more you practise the better you get at writing. So taking my own advice, the more I podcast, the better I’ll get.

Here is the first excerpt taken from Aphrodite’s Curse, which is about Phaedra, Ariadne’s little sister who ends up marrying Theseus (yes, the same Theseus Ariadne helped to kill the Minotaur and with whom she ran away with). It was a political and economical marriage between the two ruling families and powerhouse cities of the Bronze Age – Athens and Crete.
