Recently, I’ve embraced podcasts, inspired by my sister’s recommendation of Mel Robbins. Moving beyond music, I focus on self-improvement and wellness. My favourites include Mel Robbins, Lewis Howes, Dr. Mindy Pelz, Steven Bartlett, and Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, each offering valuable insights and practical takeaways for personal growth.

Lately, I’ve really been getting into podcasts—thanks to my sister, who recommended I check out Mel Robbins. I used to just stick with music on my commute to and from work (and still do sometimes). My playlist is a wild mix: soft heavy metal, rock, pop, electronic, a bit of classical and modern classical, and even film scores. (Fun fact: Gladiator inspires scenes for my Servant of the Gods series, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. soundtrack gets me in the zone for my Coin of Time series.)

But this year, I decided to shake things up. As part of a bigger focus on self-improvement and wellness, I’ve started listening to more podcasts—ones that inspire, challenge, and help me grow. Here are a few of my favourites:

1. The Mel Robbins Podcast

Mel Robbins has such an engaging style—direct, funny, and refreshingly honest. While I haven’t read her book The Let Them Theory yet, I’ve found her podcast incredibly helpful. I usually choose episodes about managing anxiety, rewiring negative thinking, letting go of emotional baggage, handling difficult people, and creating better habits. I don’t listen to every episode, just the ones that resonate, but each one I’ve chosen has left me with a practical takeaway or a fresh perspective.

2. The School of Greatness – Lewis Howes

I’m also working my way through Lewis Howes’ book The Greatest Mindset. It’s full of practical exercises to help uncover your passion and turn it into something meaningful—maybe even a career. His podcast follows a similar theme, often diving into mindset, success, and personal growth. He interviews some fascinating people, and I like to pick episodes that help me stay motivated and positive, especially on tougher days.

3. The Resetter Podcast – Dr. Mindy Pelz

This one’s for all the women out there—especially those navigating hormonal changes through perimenopause, menopause, or beyond. Dr. Pelz is passionate about women’s health, and honestly, I wish I’d had this info back in my thirties. Her insights are empowering and eye-opening. If you’re a woman—no matter your age—this is one to add to your list.

4. The Diary of a CEO – Steven Bartlett

Steven Bartlett interviews a wide range of guests—from CEOs to creatives to wellness experts. I haven’t listened to as many of these episodes yet, but the ones I have caught have been incredibly thought-provoking. He dives deep, asking the kind of questions that make you reflect on your own journey.

5. Feel Better, Live More – Dr. Rangan Chatterjee

Health and lifestyle are front and centre in this podcast. Dr. Chatterjee chats with experts across a wide range of topics, offering practical advice and simple strategies for living a healthier life. I especially like his “Bitesize” episodes—they’re short and actionable. One episode even inspired me to start doing a quick 7-minute workout before work. It’s made such a difference—especially now that it’s winter and getting outside after school is harder.

I do have a few other podcasts I dip into now and then, but these five are on regular rotation.
