My goals for 2023

I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but here we are, into a new year. Each new year seems to come around faster and faster, which according to the world clock, the earth is spinning faster. A mere few seconds but like the old adage, ‘time slips through your fingers’ have never rung truer.

Hard to believe the year is already weeks old! Let’s get on with it, otherwise another week disappears … my main goal this year is to take time out for me. I’ve always put family, friends and work before myself, and I know most women are prone to this act of selflessness, but now it’s my turn to focus on me

I’m also going to try something different with my goals. I will still have my overarching aims except this year I’ll break each one into monthly, weekly and daily intentions. I was already doing this in roundabout way, but realised I need to be more strategic to achieve the goals I’ve set. This is what I intend for 2023:

Personal Goals

  • Home and work balance
    • Last year I wanted to reconnect with friends, which didn’t go exactly to plan. This year I will address this and make time to catch up with friends.
    • With regards to work, I’ve got long service coming up in the latter part of the year and that’s what I am looking forward to. In addition, I’ve decided to do what I feel comfortable with and not take on any further duties that takes me away from my real goal in looking after my wellbeing.
  • Meditation
    • Continue using the meditation app Insight Timer and sign up for the challenges to keep me accountable. I’ve completed two challenges so far.
  • Fitness
    • Walk each day and on the days where I don’t, use the 7 min intermittent exercise apps to keep up with my fitness.
    • The other fitness is mental acuity. I enjoy completing word puzzles and there are a few apps like Wordle, but I tend to prefer the word sleuth books.
  • Photography
    • I will take photos but not make it a priority.
  • Reading
    • This is a new goal as I love to read and there are so many books and authors to read.

Professional Goals

  • Writing
    • Revise book 2 | Coin of time series. Publish this year? I hesitate to give a timeframe as my budget for publication was drained with the book launch of Minotaur’s Lair and I haven’t financially recouped from the book release.Finish book 3 | Coin of time series. I have written over half of the book but not really happy with the direction of the story and need to revise/cut sections.Finish the draft Historical romance fiction novel. Didn’t even manage to write any new content for this new book last year.Develop new content for blog.
    • Reconsider marketing strategies. I seem to be falling flat on my face here.
  • Teaching
    • Looking for an alternative income stream. I have developed a creative writing course for high school students as that is my expertise. I will reach out to my contacts in various schools and see if I can garner interest in the course. What I’m not sure about is how much to charge. If you have any suggestions, love to hear from you!

Your turn. What are your goals for 2023?
